MARCO PIERRE WHITE COURTYARD BAR & GRILL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER DUBLIN | DEIRDRE RUSK PHOTOGRAPHY
Right, where do I even start with this one.
B & C's wedding was one of those days that just felt right from the very beginning. Relaxed, warm, full of laughter and completely and utterly them from start to finish. No fuss, no performance, no doing things a certain way because that's what you're supposed to do. Just two people getting married surrounded by the people they love most, with the craic turned up to full volume all day.
It was my kind of wedding. Honestly, it was my kind of day.
The morning
B & C got ready together in the gorgeous Clayton Hotel in Ballsbridge, which set the tone for everything that followed. Just the two of them, champagne, laughter and that particular calm that settles over a couple when they've decided not to stress about anything. The groomsmen rocked up later and the energy shifted into something brilliant. No drama, no nerves, just pure excitement and connection. My favourite kind of morning to photograph.
The ceremony and the day
The ceremony took place in the intimate ceremony space at Marco Pierre White Courtyard Bar & Grill in Donnybrook and it was an absolute joy. Full of love, packed with laughter and just the right amount of happy tears. Heartfelt and completely them, nothing staged, nothing performative. Just two people promising forever in front of their nearest and dearest in a room that felt like it was made for exactly this.
Now, if you know me, you know I'm all about letting couples actually live their day. B & C wanted to be present, to laugh, to hug every guest, to enjoy the whole thing rather than spend hours in front of a camera. So we did a quick five minute couple shoot, got the family photos done at speed, and that was that. The rest of the day was pure documentary. Me, hanging out with the guests, having the craic and catching everything as it happened. And those are always the photos that really land.
No cake. No grand entrance. No first dance. Their day, their way — and it was honestly perfect.
The speeches had me in stitches. Their friends and family were absolute salt of the earth, kind, hilarious and completely up for it. The dancefloor was buzzing from start to finish and the energy was electric right to the very end.
B & C — thank you for trusting me with your day. It was a total honour.
Marco Pierre White Courtyard Bar & Grill — a Dublin wedding venue worth knowing about
If you're a couple looking for a Dublin wedding venue that feels genuinely different, intimate, stylish, full of atmosphere and absolutely nothing like a hotel ballroom , Marco Pierre White in Donnybrook deserves a serious look.
Tucked behind wrought iron gates on Belmont Avenue in Donnybrook, Dublin 4, the venue has a character that's entirely its own. You enter through a beautiful lush courtyard, all greenery and fairy lights and the kind of warm atmospheric lighting that makes everything look like a film set. It's only about 15 minutes from Dublin city centre by car or bus, but the minute you step through those gates it feels like a world away from the noise of the city.
The venue is a collaboration between the family run Irish restaurant dynasty Fitzers and chef restaurateur Marco Pierre White, and that partnership shows in everything from the quality of the food to the care and attention that goes into every event. One wedding at a time only, which means on your day you have the full attention of the entire team, complete flexibility on layout and timings, and none of that hotel-lobby energy where guests drift off in different directions. The bar, impressively refashioned from the old Montrose Hotel in Stillorgan, is a genuine centrepiece of the room and draws people together naturally.
The historic dining room is the main reception space, seating up to 160 guests, with soaring ceilings, a venetian back bar, reclaimed floors studded with cast iron columns rescued from a Kerry church and auction house finds from around the world. It's opulent without being stuffy and glamorous without being cold. The Garden Room, with its own private bar and double doors onto the heated outdoor garden, is perfect for smaller weddings of up to 60 guests and can be used as a bar area for larger events. There's also the intimate Library Room for smaller gatherings or as a private space for the couple to steal a few minutes alone.
Ceremonies can be held in the venue itself or in the beautiful courtyard, which has covered areas and gas heaters for less predictable Irish weather. The food, which is what Marco Pierre White has always been famous for, is exceptional. Guests consistently say it's the best they've ever had at a wedding, and that's saying something.
What it's like to photograph there
The courtyard alone is a documentary photographer's dream. It has the kind of warm intimate atmosphere that makes people relax and be themselves quickly. The historic dining room photographs beautifully at every stage of the day, from the bright natural light of the afternoon through to the warm golden tones of the evening.
I'm not a fly on the wall photographer. I'm there with you for the whole day, in the middle of it all, having the craic with your guests and always ready when something real is about to happen. A venue like Marco Pierre White suits that approach perfectly because the space brings people together rather than spreading them out, which means the energy builds naturally and the real moments are never far away.

No cake. No first dance. No grand entrance. Just two people, their favourite humans and a dancefloor that didn't stop all night. Sometimes the weddings with the least amount of tradition have the most amount of joy. These photos are proof of that.
